Transferring an already registered domain name entails switching the company that handles the registration service, so after the transfer, you’ll have to manage things like renewal payments or DNS resource record updates through the new domain name registrar. The transfer process itself is standard with most domain name extensions. Certain country-code extensions are more specific and involve different steps, but in the general case transferring a domain entails a few basic procedures and one of them is unlocking the domain name. The domain lock is a safety feature, which is being embraced by more and more domain registry organizations. It is a default feature supported by all generic Top-Level Domains. If a domain name is locked, it will be impossible to initiate a transfer procedure, so nobody can even attempt to snatch your domain name. The domain lock can be removed only through the account where the domain is registered and all new domain names that support this functionality are locked by default when they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Shared Hosting

Locking and unlocking a domain registered through us is astonishingly easy. This can be achieved through the Hepsia Control Panel, which is included with our Linux shared packages, and will require literally two mouse clicks. All your domains will be listed alphabetically in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the domain lock option, you will see a padlock-like symbol. Click on it once and you’ll see the current status of the domain. Click once more and you’ll alter its status. The update will take effect immediately without the need for you or for our company to do anything else for the status to be ‘refreshed’ on WHOIS lookup sites, so you can proceed with the transfer process straight away.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Hosting

In case you want to transfer a domain name from our company to another domain name registrar and you have a semi-dedicated server account, you’ll be able to get the domain ready with only several clicks. All your domain names will be listed in a separate section of the Hepsia Control Panel – the exact same tool via which you’ll manage your hosting account. If a particular gTLD or ccTLD supports the registrar lock feature, you will notice a padlock-like icon. You can see if the domain name is locked or not by clicking on that icon once and you can change the status by clicking once again. That’s all it takes and there will be nothing else that you or our company will need to do, so you can continue with the transfer process straight away. The update will propagate momentarily, so you won’t need to wait for the status to change on WHOIS lookup sites.
